Toddler Found Safe After Being Abducted By Mother In Homestead

HOMESTEAD (CBSMiami) – Nearly four hours after the Homestead Police Department made a please to find a boy abducted by his mother, the 3-year-old was found safe and the woman is now behind bars.

According to police, Xzavius Alexander Edwards III who was taken by his mother Clanetha Davis without the permission of the Department of Children and Families.

It happened when Davis went to visit Xzavius on November 27th at the aunt's home located in the 900 block of NW 11th Street in Homestead.

CBS4's Tiani Jones spoke with a woman who was nearby when police arrived. She said she'd seen Davis in the area in the past.

"I really feel sorry for her. Like, I don't think she's no harm to her baby or whatever and it's just a sad situation," said a woman who only identified herself as Keisha.

Police said Davis lost custody of her son because of child abuse and custody was granted to his aunt.

"We've had issues with her. She's been arrested for resisting arrest, for narcotics-related charges and for child abuse and or child neglect charges and also theft," said Det. Fernando Morales.

Homestead police immediately issued a be on the lookout for Xzavius, who they said was in danger due to his mother's drug addiction and violent tendencies.

Xzavius was found safe and sound late Tuesday evening. The Homestead Police Department is communicating with DCF in order to determine where to place Xzavius.

As for Davis, she was booked into jail. She will be charged with the kidnapping of a child under 13 years of age.
