Missing Chicago Man Found Dead Off Key West Pier
KEY WEST (CBSMiami) - Police in Key West have a mystery on their hands involving a Chicago man who apparently left home for work 2 weeks ago and was found dead, 4 days later, floating off a Key West pier. Things got weird when his family in Chicago got a package.
When the body was found January 13th, police did not know it was 65-year-old John Henson of Chicago. The body had no identification, and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office was not sure how he died. The body was turned over to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy, but initial reports did not show any indication of foul play.
In Chigago, Henson's family was worried when he didn't return, and became even more alarmed when they received a package from Key West last week. Inside was Henson's wallet, ID, and other personal items, but no explanation.
They contacted Chicago police, and then, police in Key West, who put them in touch with the Medical Examiner.
The autopsy showed that the man had drowned, but other tests are still pending.
Unknown is how and why Henson ended up in Key West, and who gathered up his personal effects to send them to his family.
