FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A 27-year-old man is facing numerous charges, including kidnapping, after a toddler went missing in Ft. Lauderdale.
An Amber Alert was issued for 3-year-old Lee Parrish Saturday night. He was located safely by Broward Sheriff's Office the following morning.
Police said the boy was taken while he was sleeping in the back seat of a car being driven by William James Rogers, along with his mother's boyfriend.
According to police, when they stopped for gas and the mother's boyfriend got out to pump, Rogers drove off.
Following the Amber Alert, BSO deputies in Tamarac were tipped off to Rogers' location. He attempted to flea on foot but was quickly apprehended, police said.
He told investigators that he had dropped the 3-year-old off at a home in Ft. Lauderdale, located in the 2900 block of 21st Court.
When deputies headed there, they discovered the boy with a woman, although they did not specify if she was his mother. The woman told police that she had just noticed the Amber Alert and was about to call the authorities to report the child's whereabouts.
Police say that as of now, there does not appear to be a relationship between the occupants of the home and Rogers.
BSO Child Protective Investigation Section is evaluating the incident and have taken custody of Parrish.
Along with kidnapping, Rogers was charged with grand theft, dealing in stolen property and child neglect.
