Mischievous Teens Break Into Broward School
OAKLAND PARK (CBSMiami) – The Broward Sheriff's Office is looking for four young vandals in Fort Lauderdale.
The kids broke in to North Andrews Gardens Elementary on July 2nd, according the detectives. Surveillance video showed them walking the halls.
"It's like they have nothing better to do," BSO Det. Brian Rupp said "This one happened between 2 and 3 in the morning."
The boys are between 10 and 14 years old, Det. Rupp added.
Surveillance video showed the kids tearing down a screen and using a screwdriver to break in to a classroom.
The detective said they made a mess inside.
"(They) smeared chocolate all over the wall," Det. Rupp explained. "Wrote on the wall with markers. Just vandalizing the property that has to be fixed with our tax money."
He said the kids also set off fire extinguishers and broke ceiling tiles.
The Broward Sheriff's Office estimates the damage totals several thousand dollars.
The boys did not steal anything from the school.
Detectives think it may be a case of summertime boredom and urge parents to be vigilant.
"Keep an eye on your kids," Rupp said. "They may not be where you think they are."
BSO says the same school has been burglarized before back in June.
