Murder Investigation Underway After Body Found In Gated Miramar Community
MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) - The hunt is on for the person who murdered a young man in broad daylight Wednesday morning in Miramar.
Neighbors called 911 when they heard gunshots just before 9 a.m. and area schools were put on lockdown.
When police arrived they found a body behind the townhome in the 8900 block of SW 19th Street, just off Pembroke Road, at the gated community called the Village at Miramar.
The victim's family asked Miramar police to withhold the name of their family member.
A police chopper circled over the community looking for clues, as crime scene investigators combed the grassy area behind the townhome and talked to family members
and neighbors.
Some residents of the gated community told police they heard gunshots before the body was discovered.
"I was in shock this morning," said neighbor Cecilia DeLaine. She says this type of violence is "unheard of here."
"Stealing a bike or something minor, but this type of police activity, never."
Detectives are reviewing surveillance from the community to piece together the moments leading up to the murder.
Police don't yet have a motive for the shooting.
The shooting prompted several schools in the area to be placed on a precautionary lockdown.
Miramar police tweeted out that "Somerset Central, La Petit Academy and Sea Castle Elementary are on lockdown, as a precaution, due to an ongoing investigation in the area." The lockdown was lifted about an hour later.
