Millions Of Gmail Passwords Leaked Online
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Over 5 million Gmail passwords were leaked on the internet Wednesday, but Google said there is no reason to panic.
"We found that less than 2% of the username and password combinations might have worked," the internet giant wrote on their blog.
Google also reiterated that their system showed no signs of a breach. Instead, they explained this came from "other sources" that harvested the passwords using malware or phishing schemes to capture login credentials.
"We have no evidence that our systems have been compromised," said Google spokeswoman Caroline Matthews.
Google has still taken measures to protect their customers by locking out access to the accounts. Users who attempt to login will be redirected to the company's website to reset their password.

- Update your recovery options so Google can reach you by phone or email if you get locked out of your account.
- Use their 2-step verification, which adds an extra layer of security to your account.
