Middle School Kids Acting "Out Of It" Taken To Hospital

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Several middle school kids were checked out by Miami-Dade paramedics after they ingested something they shouldn't have.
Miami-Dade Schools spokesman John Schuster said the seven students at Paul Bell Middle, at 11800 NW 2nd Street, were sent to the office Tuesday after they exhibited "out of it" behavior.
"They just were like knocked out. One girl was laughing because she was drunk and intoxicated," said one student.
Ambulances streamed into the school to examine the students.
A total of seven students were checked out by paramedics and then taken to a nearby hospital where they were listed as stable.
Officially the school district said the kids had ingested some substance. Meantime, classmates said it was drugs and alcohol.
"Two girls were drinking rum or vodka, some people said. That's all that really happened," said one student. "Some people said they took five xanaxs."
Students said it was both boys and girls who were high, possibly 8th graders.
One student said one of the girls said she was depressed and she took the dangerous combination to try to make herself feel better.
The incident scared parents. Some arrived early on Tuesday to get their children after getting word there was trouble.
"She said something wrong at the school, something wrong with the boys in the school, you better go there," said parent Maures Charon.
