Miami Women Beat Virginia 62-52 In ACC 2nd Round

GREENSBORO (CBSMiami/AP) — The Miami Hurricanes came away with a major upset in the annual ACC tournament.
Necole Sterling scored 15, Adrienne Motley 13, and eighth-seeded Miami beat No. 9 seed Virginia 62-52 in the second round of the ACC tournament on Thursday.
Miami (19-11) held Virginia to its second-lowest scoring output of the season to advance to quarterfinals, facing top-seeded and No. 2-ranked Notre Dame on Friday. Miami gave the Irish (28-2) their only conference loss 78-63 on Jan. 8.
Jassany Williams led Miami's defensive effort with five blocks and eight rebounds to go with her eight points.
Miami scored 10 straight points midway through the second half to take the lead for good at 49-40. Michelle Woods' 3-pointer with 1:53 left put the game out of reach at 59-48.
Lauren Moses had 13 points, and Breyana Mason and Mikayla Venson scored 11 apiece for Virginia (17-13). The Cavaliers opened the second half on a 6-0 run and had their last lead at 40-39.
