Miami Tower Lights Up For Newtown School Shooting
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami's downtown skyline will be tinged with green and white lit Monday night by the Miami Tower in remembrance of the victims in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
At 5:30 p.m. the tower, located at 100 SE 2nd St., was illuminated in the school's colors to pay tribute and respect to the victims.
Twenty six people, including 20 children, were killed when 20-year-old Adam Lanza burst past Sandy Hook Elementary School's new security measures and opened fire with a .223 Bushmaster semi-automatic rifle. The schools principal and psychologist died trying to stop him. Lanza went into two classrooms and shot the children and their teachers before taking his own life when he heard first responders and police arrive.
The lighted memorial tribute will stay until dawn.
