MIAMI (CBSMiami) - After the idea died during the 2014 legislative session, a state legislator from Miami has said he'll try again to have the state's minimum wage raised to $10.10 an hour.
Senator Dwight Bullard and Rep. Cynthia Stafford, D-Miami, proposed a $10.10 minimum wage during the 2014 session, but their bills were not heard in Senate or House committees.
Bullard said he has filed similar legislation for the 2015 session.
"I can think of no greater matter of importance than someone's ability to work and earn a decent wage," said Bullard in a statement. "Let those who would deny it try to live on it for just a week. They need to realize that there are real life consequences from their inaction in Tallahassee."
A higher minimum wage has become an issue in this year's gubernatorial race, with Democratic candidate Charlie Crist supporting a hike and Republican Gov. Rick Scott opposing it.
Florida's minimum wage this year is $7.93 an hour and is $4.91 an hour for tipped employees, such as restaurant workers.
