Miami Science Museum Hopes To Re-Open This Week
MIAMI (CBS4) - The Miami Science Museum hopes to re-open to the public early this week after asbestos has been safely removed from a utility room off the planetarium.
The museum, at 3280 S. Miami Avenue, was closed Friday after the toxic substance was found in a mechanical room that was not accessible to the public.
Air samples taken throughout the museum and planetarium and tested by EE&G Environmental Services LLC proved negative for asbestos. An abatement crew was brought in to remove the asbestos insulation. The museum will reopen this week, possibly as early as Monday, once the abatement is completed.
The majority of the facility was renovated in 1991 and features newer construction materials.
