Miami Roads Will Close For Jet's "Road Trip"
MIAMI (CBS4) - Some Miami residents will have to deal with the closure of two major streets Tuesday night in Wednesday morning but not for the usual construction or road rehab work.
State Road 112 and LeJeune Road will be shut down so a 737 aircraft can be moved from Miami International Airport to its new home at the George T. Baker Aviation School.
Getting the passenger plane from point A to point B will be no easy feat. To move it, engineers will use a 300-ton crane to pick up the plane, lift it over State Road 112 and place it on LeJuene Road. From there an aircraft tug will pull the 737 to its resting spot on the south side of Baker Aviation.
Beginning at midnight SR112 will close to traffic, LeJeune Road will close shortly there after.
Drivers wishing to go North or South on LeJeune Road or West or Eastbound on SR112 will need to follow the posted detour signs.
Police vehicles will be on site assisting drivers through the detour routes. Access to and from Miami International Airport will be maintained at all times through NW 37 Avenue (Douglas Road) and NW 21 Street.
This is the second aircraft donated to the school within the last 13 months. In May, 2010, American Airlines donated a MD-80.
