Miami Preps For Possible Heat Victory
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – As the Miami Heat try to win their 82nd game of the season and a second straight NBA Championship in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, law enforcement from around the area will be instituting plans for the possibility of a Heat victory.
Miami Police will start closing roads as of 10:15 p.m. The road closures will include Biscayne Boulevard from NE 3rd Street to NE 14th Street in both northbound and southbound directions. All traffic will be sent westbound.
MPD said traffic will not be allowed east of NE 2nd Avenue from 3rd Street to NE 14th Street after 10 p.m. The Brickell Bridge will also be closed in the northbound direction, but Port Boulevard will remain open at all times.
Elsewhere in South Florida, the city of Hialeah said it is planning to keep W. 49th Street open to all traffic, but they will be controlling the traffic flow. In the past, the area has seen celebrations whenever the Heat have won a championship.
In addition, Miami Police expect a large celebration downtown if the Heat are able to knock off the San Antonio Spurs in Game 7. Last year, the party lasted well into the next morning before starting to calm after about 2-3 a.m.
As for the possibility of a parade if the Heat win, no possible dates have been discussed by either Miami-Dade County or the city of Miami and the Heat.
