Miami Prepared To Start Clean-Up Efforts Monday Morning

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado said Sunday the city is prepared and on Monday morning, city workers will begin working on cleaning up the mess left by Tropical Storm Isaac.

Regalado said that at 10 a.m. Monday, public works and waste will begin the clean-up of debris from around the city. There are also plans in place for water and ice distribution points to be available if it's deemed necessary.

Miami Police asked residents to stay indoors through Sunday night, but Regalado said police are prepared as people start to come out of their homes and back on the streets.

Still, Miami Police warned that if winds get in excess of 35 miles per hour, police response time will be delayed and could be suspended.

Regalado said Miami City Hall will be closed Monday until at least noon. The mayor said residents in low-lying areas urged to come to shelters because of potential flooding concerns from the near constant rains.

Regalado said there are eleven pumps located in remote areas across the city that are working to try to alleviate any potential flooding.
