Miami Police Program Teaches Students About 911 Protocol
MIAMI (CBS4)- Would your child know what to do in an emergency? Many don't, according to the Miami Police Benevolent Association. That's why the Miami PBA held its annual 911 training program.
The PBA taught approximately100 Comstock Elementary School second grade students how to dial 911, and when and when not to call.
To reinforce what they learned from and instructional DVD, the students at the school located at 2420 Northwest 18th Avenue in Miami were quizzed, and interacted with a Miami police officer.
Comstock Elementary School teacher Cathy Green said the program allows students to clearly see what an emergency is and what to do to help those involved. It simply saves lives, she said.
"They see the police in their area but they don't necessarily know what to do and what is an emergency, so we reinforce this," Green said. "We've been to the fire station and now we're here and we have a partnership with the mounted police and K-9 (unit) letting them know that these people are here to help them."
Organizers said they hope to get more Miami-Dade county schools involved in the program.
