Miami Police Need Help Finding Missing Teen
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Detectives with the Miami Police Department's Special Victims Unit handed out flyers Wednesday morning with a picture of a missing 13-year old girl who hasn't been seen in more than a month.
Alexandra Flores was last seen February 24th in the Village of Wynwood. She was wearing blue jeans, a blue tank top and blue sandals. Police believe she ran away from home.
"You know her mother and me, we are very worried," said the teen's father Alejandro Flores.
Flores said the family lives in Pembroke Pines and Alexandra is a good student at Pembroke Pines Middle School. He added that his daughter has done this type of thing before.
"We were having issues," said Flores, "But I don't think that it was a reason to run like that."
Flores said he recently deleted his daughters Facebook page because he felt she was too young to be using the social network website. He said she didn't like it, but he doesn't think she left home over it.
"It's been crazy, I can't go to sleep, I can't even function right," said Flores.
Police said Alexandra was seen on a surveillance video walking along Biscayne Boulevard the day she went missing. They believe she was visiting a friend in the area, but they don't know who that friend is.
"We're thinking she hitched a ride with a friend and from there we lost track of her," said Detective Maykel Baluia. "To us it's very serious, especially a 13 year old missing for over a month."
Wednesday morning police went door to door and talked with people on the street in the area of Biscayne Boulevard and 34th Street in hopes of generating new leads.
A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for information which leads to her recovery. Anyone who can help is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-8477(TIPS).
