MIAMI (CBSMiami) - One person has taken into custody after an armed robbery of a food truck.
It happened around 10 a.m. in northwest Miami-Dade at the intersection of NW 35th Ave. and 65th Street.
A man went up to a food truck parked near the intersection, pointed a gun at the woman inside, Oria Diaz, and demanded cash from her husband Miguel who was working with her.
"They came in here and pointed a gun at my wife and hit her with it. They put the gun to her head. In that time I had a chance to grab my weapon. When he pointed the gun at me I fired," said Miguel
The injured robber tried to get away but didn't get very far thanks to some quick thinking bystanders.
"We heard the gunshots, and then a couple of seconds later we see this guy running for his life," said Nelson Gomez. "They were able just to grab him, literally hog tied him, and bring him back over here while they waited for police."
"We don't ask anybody in the community to do this. However, we are very, very fortunate, the victims are very fortunate that there was a Good Samaritan in the area that helped," said Miami-Dade Detective Angel Rodriguez.
While this was happening, two other gunmen fired at Miguel Diaz from a white vehicle. It then sped off.
Detectives later learned a white vehicle with a gunshot wound victim arrived at the hospital.
At this point, they can not say for certain the two incidents are connected, but officers are questioning the driver.
Police found a handgun just around the corner from where the armed robbery took place.
The Miguel Diaz said they been doing this for 20 years and recognized the men from a few weeks ago when they came to their truck.
Even after this, they plan to be back at work in the morning.
"If you're scared, how are you going to pay the bills? You have to work," said Miguel Diaz.
