Miami Photojournalist Speaks About Imprisonment In Libya At UM
CORAL GABLES (CBS4)- A South Florida photographer captured while covering the revolt in Libya is sharing his story for the first time.
Joe Raedle, a Getty Images photographer, was captured in mid-March by Qaddafi forces while he was on assignment for a story. He was imprisoned for four days.
He says, to survive, he had to stay quiet.
"There is no negotiating. You couldn't ask questions. It was very one-way," said Raedle.
Raedle says he had to stay strong.
"You remember the things that are important in your life, what you like, what you enjoy to do everyday. Obviously, your wife is very important. You keep that in your mind,"
Raedle was released three weeks ago. His wife, Nancy, remembers the moment she got the call
"[It was] liberating. I could breathe. I mean that's the only way I could explain it. It was sheer joy," said San Martin, who is also the Interactive Editor for CBS4's news partner, The Miami Herald.
For four days, Nancy had no idea where her husband was or how he was doing. But even then, she says, she never thought the worst.
