Miami Muslim Cleric Back On Stand In Terror Support Trial
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) – A Miami Muslim cleric accused of funneling money to the Taliban in Pakistan is taking the stand for a second day in his own defense.
Hafiz Khan has denied any connection to the Taliban or providing money for weapons or bombs.
Prosecutors say the 77-year-old cleric provided at least $50,000 to the terror organization.
Khan said the money was for the poor, for his extended family and for a religious school he owns in Pakistan's Swat Valley. Khan is imam at a downtown Miami mosque.
He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted on each of four terrorism support-related counts. He has been jailed since his May 2011 arrest.
Charges were previously dropped against two of Khan's sons in the U.S.
