Mother Wants Miami Shooting Suspect To Turn Himself in
MIAMI (CBS4) – The mother of a 23-year old man who reportedly shot three people after getting into a fight with his girlfriend has a message for her son.
Erin Cash's mother, who did not wish to be identified in this report, told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that she doesn't believe what the police are saying about her son and she wants him to turn himself in.
"I feel very really terrible about it, I feel very bad about it, he was wrong for what he did, I don't know what he's going through but I just want to let him know, please turn yourself in because they are going to make it so difficult out here for you," said Cash's mother into a call to her son. "They're going to gun you down if they find you. Please turn yourself in."
Cash reportedly told a friend after Sunday's shooting that he wouldn't go down without a fight. Miami police say Cash is considered armed and dangerous.
A check of records shows he has been arrested before for assault and robbery. Now he is wanted for attempted murder.
Investigators said the violence all started as a domestic dispute between Cash and his girlfriend at 13 Avenue and Northwest 41 Street. The couple's 3-year-old son was in the car at the time.
"Before the suspect fled he did tell the female he was going to kill her and their son," according to police spokesman Det. William Moreno.
"The argument escalated and became semi physical between him and a female victim," said Moreno. "She was in fear for her life. She jumped out of the car when it was in motion."
According to investigators, Cash drove off with his son but dropped him off at his mother's home at 1255 Northwest 72 Street in Miami. Cash's mother said her son's child was never in danger.
"His son was not in the car (during the shootings), he was here with me, I had him, his grandmother, I had the baby," said Cash's mother.
Police say in anger, Cash went to three addresses and shot three people.
He first allegedly went to where one of his girlfriend's brothers was at Northwest 12 Avenue and 64 Street and allegedly shot him. Cash then drove two blocks to Northwest 10th Avenue and 64 Street and reportedly shot his girlfriend's other brother. One was grazed in the neck and the other was hit in the arm, police said. Their injuries are not considered life threatening.
Police say a third shooting occurred at Northwest 12 Avenue and 58th Terrace. Authorities believe Cash targeted someone, but missed, and hit an innocent bystander in the leg.
Cash's mother has taken issue with what the police have said.
"Let me set the record straight. He was wrong for what he did but ya'll have the record wrong. He did not shoot three people. Only one person got shot. It was not right. It was a mistake. He was not shooting at this person. Only one brother got grazed, he got grazed. And only one man got shot in the foot."
Cash's mother spent Monday calling her son's friends asking them to call police if they see him.
She told D'Oench that her son's 23-year-old girlfriend, Michelle Richardson, and the 3-year-old boy are going to be ok.
Miami Police were still searching for cash on Monday afternoon.
"He did say he would not go down without a fight and hopefully he does change his mind and will contact us voluntarily," said Moreno.
