Miami Man Faces Decades In Prison For BP Oil Spill Fraud
MIAMI (CBSMiami) — A 31-year-old Miami man is facing federal fraud charges after allegedly filing false claims for thousands of dollars with the BP oil spill fund.
Prosecutors said Friday that Jean Mari Lindor of Homestead was charged with several counts of mail, wire and access device fraud. Lindor is being held without bail and court records didn't list an attorney for him.
According to court records, Lindor filed papers with the Gulf Coast Claims Facility falsely saying he had worked for a Florida Keys business and had lost income because of the 2010 spill in the Gulf of Mexico. He allegedly sought a combined $37,000 on his claims.
The charges carry maximum sentences that could total decades in prison.
