Miami Gymnast Wins Bronze Medal
LONDON (CBSMiami) – Miamian Danell Leyva struggled in the team gymnastics competition, but came back strong in the men's all-around taking the bronze medal in London Wednesday.
"The Olympics is literally something you dream about since you are little," Leyva told USAToday.com. "Getting a bronze is one of the happiest moments of my life, for now."
Leyva actually plummeted to 19th in the competition after the first two of six events, according to the Washington Post, but saved his best for last when he performed a near perfect horizontal bar performance to seal the medal.
Leyva was born in Cuba but calls Miami home now. After he nailed the horizontal bar, he threw up a fist to chants of USA! and then jumped into the arms of his stepfather and coach, Yin Alvarez, according to the Los Angeles Times.
