Miami Girl Fondled By Gun-Toting Robber

MIAMI (CBSMiami ) – A Miami father is speaking out about the man who broke into his apartment early last Friday morning, terrorized his children and molested his daughter.

"Yes, of course, naturally they are scared," the father told CBS4's Peter D'Oench through a translator. We are not identifying him in order to protect his family's identity.

"Yes, they went in through the window," he said. "Apparently the window was left open."

That father told Miami Police that it happened at 3:30 a.m. last Friday when a "Hispanic male wearing a mask and gloves" broke into his apartment in the area of Northwest 44th Avenue and 11th Street.

Once inside, that father said the suspect pointed a silver revolver at him and demanded that he lie face down on a bed. He was tied up and his face was covered.

The suspect ransacked the apartment and then he went into the bedroom where the father's son and daughter were sleeping. They were tied up.

While he was in the process of tying up the son, the daughter tried to use a cell phone. Police say the suspect then took the cell phone and fondled the daughter.

Police say the father was able to untie himself and confront the suspect, who fled.

"Of course, the security I have changed," said the father. "I have changed the security. And when this investigation is over, I will talk to you more."

Neighbors told D'Oench they were alarmed and worried.

"That's very disturbing and scary," said neighbor Wendy Diaz. "I have children and I don't even want to think about anyone doing that to my children. You have to be more cautious. It's frightening and disturbing. I don't understand anyone who would touch children like that. It's unfathomable."

"I'm just worried," said Wilmer Fernandez, who lives next to the father and his children. "I have two kids and they are alone at night with my wife when I am working."

Rolando Valdez told D'Oench that "I feel a little insecure but I hope this never happens again. I feel bad that this has happened. That kind of people should spend the rest of their life in jail."

Miami Police describe the suspect as a "Hispanic male" who is about 5'6" tall, 170 pounds and was last seen wearing a grey shirt.

It's not known if he's been involved in any other burglaries or sexual batteries.
