Suspect Injured Following Police-Involved Shooting In Miami Gardens
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – What began as a traffic stop in Miami Gardens took a dangerous turn Monday after someone inside the vehicle opened fire on police.
"I heard around three shots or something like that," said Joshua Mobley.
Mobley was among the Miami Gardens residents startled by the shooting that took place near his home.
"My units were conducting an investigation. They attempted to commit a traffic on the vehicle, at which time a subject in the vehicle started shooting at my officers. Gunfire was exchanged between my officers and one of the subjects in the car," explained Miami Gardens Police Chief Delma Noel-Pratt.
Noel-Pratt said at least one of her officers returned fire.
"One of the suspects in the car is injured," she said.
But the car still hadn't stopped, creating a second scene near 27th Avenue and 155 Street, where they finally crashed
"There were multiple subjects in that vehicle. We have three subjects in custody right now and multiple firearms in our custody," said Chief Noel-Pratt.
No word from police on the condition of the suspect who was shot. Authorities have not identified any of the suspects.
The shooting caused streets in the area near NW 22 Avenue and Bunche Park Drive to shut down for hours and left many neighbors in disbelief.
"I've never seen it, not in my house like this," said resident Bishop Ira Williams.
And residents like Mobley he hoping the violence comes to an end soon.
"I'm just shocked about the whole thing. I just wish everything with that would stop," he said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation.
