Miami Gardens Man Pleads Guilty To Identity Theft
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A Miami Gardens man has pleaded guilty to identity theft.
Jean-Elguentino Cayo entered his plea Monday in federal court.
Cayo, who stole the security information of some 400 people, is just one of nearly four dozen people charged in recent months in separate identity theft cases.
Prosecutors say the 26-year-old Haitian native sold the data to an undercover agent on three separate occasions in January, April and June of this year, for which he received $2,000.
The investigation was led by a team that involved agents from the IRS and the Department of Homeland Security.
He now faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, but he could get much less.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 5, 2014.
