Miami, Ft. Lauderdale Fail To Break Record High Temps

MIAMI (CBS4) -It was hot today across South Florida but it wasn't one for the record books.

Preliminary data shows that Miami reached 90 degrees and it was 88 in Fort Lauderdale.

The temperature needed to reach 92 in Miami to tie the record and 94 in Fort Lauderdale.

CBS4 Chief Meteorologist David Bernard says the west winds were not strong enough to push us over the top. Our afternoon sea breeze cooled things off before that could happen.

The normal temperature for this time in April is around 85 degrees.

Most of South Florida is experiencing extreme to severe drought conditions with a deficit of 10 to 15 inches of rain since October. Lake Okeechobee is still well below where it should be at this time of year. Currently the lake level is 11.56 feet; the average level is 14.07 and last year at this time was 14.73.
