Miami Favored By 60 Points Over Savannah State

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The number 16 Miami Hurricanes return to action Saturday, kind of. The Canes will welcome the Savannah State Tigers into Sun Life Stadium for a slaughter.

The Tigers played two ranked teams last season, Oklahoma State and the Florida State Seminoles. The Tigers were outscored 139-0 in those two games and were outgained yardage wise, 1,095-167.

It would have been worse, but the FSU game was canceled with 24 minutes remaining due to lightning in the area.

Things didn't start much better for the Tigers this year, although the team did finally get on the scoreboard. Savannah State lost to Georgia Southern University 77-9 and lost to Troy University 66-3, or a combined 143-12.

Yardage wise, Savannah State was outgained by Georgia Southern and Troy by a margin of 1,182 to 309. The Tigers are also averaging less than 1 yard per attempt in 2013.

Savannah State did finally record a win last week, knocking off Fort Valley State University, 27-20.

Other than that, UM will use this game as a chance to get younger players some much needed game action, albeit against a very weak opponent.

UM is paying Savannah State $375,000 for the guaranteed win on Saturday. Odds on the game are tough to come by, but at least one book had Miami favored by 60 points.
