Miami Dolphins Fall To Chicago Bears 20-13 In 1st Preseason Game
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Dolphins kicked off their 2021 season with their 1st preseason game at Soldier Field in Chicago.
After jumping out to a 13-0 lead, the Bears came back to win the game 20-13.
The key for coach Brian Flores' team was the mostly strong play by the starters and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Playing in his first pre-season NFL game, last year's were canceled due to covid, Tua completed 8 of 11 passes for 99 yards. The one blemish, an interception in the end zone that ended what was otherwise a solid drive.
The Dolphins dominated the 1st 29 minutes of the game, holding Chicago to no first downs. The running game was productive with both Miles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed putting up big yards per carry.
Ahmed had a strong game, scoring the only Miami touchdown on a pass from backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
Cornerback Nik Needham stood out on defense with 2 passes defended.
But the Bears rallied behind rookie quarterback Justin Fields.
The 11th pick in the draft ran for one touchdown and threw for another that gave the Bears a 17-13 lead.
The crowd at Solider Field, watching their team play for the first time since 2019 due to covid, went wild for the young star QB.
The Dolphins have 2 pre-season games remaining, including next Saturday night against Atlanta at Hard Rock Stadium. It's the only home game of the pre-season.
Before the game, on Wednesday and Thursday, the Falcons will be at the Miami Gardens training facility for joint practices, as the Dolphins competed against the Beara this past week here in Chicago.
