Miami-Dade Unemployment Decreases In July
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – As the economy continues to teeter towards a double-dip recession, the unemployment problem in Florida remains stagnant. July's unemployment rate increased to 10.7 percent.
The 10.7 percent unemployment rate translates to just under a million people collecting unemployment insurance in July.
The news is slightly better in Miami-Dade County. The July unemployment rate in Miami-Dade County dropped 1.4 percent to 12.5 percent in July. In July, over 163,000 people in Miami-Dade County were looking for work.
But, the numbers could be dropping due to workers running out of unemployment insurance, leaving the work force, giving up looking for work, and other issues. When you factor in those people, the unemployment rate in Miami-Dade County jumps to 20.6 percent.
In Broward County, the unemployment rate in July was unchanged from June at 9.6 percent. The unemployment rate means a little more than 95,000 workers were looking for a job in June. But, when you factor in all of the unemployed people; the rate jumps to 17.7 percent.
Finally, the county with the best unemployment rate in the state again was Monroe County. In July, just 3,029 people in Monroe County were on unemployment insurance, or 6.6 percent. Again, adding in those who have given up, left the workforce, or exhausted unemployment insurance; the rate jumps to 14.5 percent.
