MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A man is under arrest, accused of killing his girlfriend's son.
Monday morning, the mother of the victim got into an argument with her boyfriend at a home located near SW 102 Ave and W Fern Street around 7 a.m., Miami-Dade Police said.
At some point, officers say, the boyfriend left the house but later returned armed and angry.
He reportedly shot and killed his girlfriend's son then left.
Miami-Dade Police say the victim is 39-year-old Johnny Eugene Brown, who would have turned 40 years on Tuesday.
A short time later, police took the suspected gunman into custody just three blocks away from the home.
Police have identified him as 60-year-old Clarence Williams.
CBS4's Peter D'Oench was at the scene and could see the mother being consoled by family members.
A family member spoke out about the woman's son who was killed.
"I knew he was a good person. You know he was just willing to help out in the community," family member Duiwone Avant.
Family members and friends are baffled by what happened
"The person that got killed is a wonderful, wonderful person," said family friend Darrell Collins. "The only thing he does every morning is cut people's grass and make a living...he's never been violent. He's never had a record. He's never been to jail before."
He went on, "I guess he said Johnny owed him some money and it wasn't true and then he want to shoot everybody."
"There are too many people hurting each other and killing each other," he said. "I lost a son and a nephew to street violence. It has got to stop."
A source told D'Oench authorities are looking for the shotgun the man reportedly used.
Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471 -TIPS.
