Miami-Dade & Air Force Partner To Reduce Mosquito Infestation
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami-Dade County has partnered with the Air Force Reserve to help reduce the infestation of mosquitoes in the area through aerial spraying.
The move comes as mosquito counts have exceeded existing levels in the area.
The county has provided pesticides while the Air Force contributed pilots and an aircraft which may fly as low as 150 feet above the ground while spraying pesticides.
The aerial spraying started July 29th and runs through July 31st. Each flight starts during the final two hours before sunset and lasts up to 30 minutes after sunset.
The plane will spray pesticides over Homestead, the Redlands, Florida City, parts of Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay and areas of western Miami-Dade County(parts of West Kendall and Tamiami.)
Those who suffer from allergies are advised to stay indoors during the spraying.
