Miami City Ballet Dancers Ready For Opening Night

MIAMI(CBS4)- On stage, ballerinas make plies and pirouettes look effortless. But behind the scenes, hours and hours of training, stopping and going is the real life of a ballerina in The Miami City Ballet.

Their jobs are to be graceful and controlled, and Edward Viellella is the artistic director and knows the hours are grueling. This is all part of the performances carried out by the Miami City Ballet.

"We work every day," Viellella said. "We are physical for seven and a half hours a day."

This season the class of dancers are rehearsing for their shows debuting at the Adrienne Arsht Center this weekend.

Afternoon of a Faun is about a young man in a dance studio absorbed by his reflection in a mirror and a young woman who enters the studio and interrupts his reverie.

"It has that oddity of having the so called fourth wall, the fourth wall, the audience," Viellella said.

And the pieces principal ballerinas, Jennifer Kronenberg and Carlos Guerra, just so happen to be married.

Kronenberg and Guerra work hand in hand with quite a bit of trust.

The performances will also include three other pieces including the famous Balanchine's square dance which were all performed and well received in their Paris debut this summer.

"The premise of this whole thing is to bring that opening night in Paris back here to Miami," Viellella said.
