Miami Beach Residents Forced Out By Flooding

MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) - Thursday's rain left a mess in Miami Beach when a condo building began taking on water.

People who live at the Alden Hotel Condos were left scrambling to find someplace to stay as they watched their units flood.

Christian Diaz rents a second floor apartment in the building.  He says a firefighter knocked on his door and woke him up at six in the morning.

"They told me to get out," Diaz said.  Before he left, he shot some cellphone video showing couple of inches of water covering the floor.

His is one of six units the city deemed unsafe, citing repairs needed to the roof.  A notice posted on the doors gives the condo association two days to fix the problem.

"I don't have the money. I've got to go to a hotel. I don't think they're going to fix the problem in 48 hours," Diaz said.

Diaz told CBS4's Maggie Newland this isn't the first time the he's had leaks in his unit, but he says it is the worst.

Calls to the condo association to ask about the leaks and the repair process, but as of Thursday night,  there was no response.
