Miami Beach Firefighter Slapped With DUI Charge, Crash
MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) -- A Miami Beach firefighter is in trouble with the law after being slapped with a DUI charge while driving an unmarked city vehicle and causing a crash.
According to the police arrest affidavit, Steven Martonffy, 34, hit a parked car on 11th street just off Collins Avenue around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday.
After the crash, the affidavit states, Martonffy fled westbound on 11th Street. Two police officers, who witnessed the crash, stopped the car a few blocks away.
The officers immediately "smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" and also observed the driver to "have blood shot/watery eyes and slurred speech," according to the affidavit. Martonffy, police say, failed a roadside sobriety test and was taken to the Miami Beach Police Department.
Martonffy, who has been a Miami Beach firefighter for 9 years, has been charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
Martonffy remains in jail. Bond has been set at $1,500.
