Miami Beach Church Fed Homeless Man Accused Of Stealing From Them
MIAMI - (CBSMiami.com) - A homeless man who had received help from a Miami Beach church's food bank is now facing burglary and theft charges for allegedly breaking and entering into a church office.
St. Patrick Catholic Church workers say they recognized the man when they were shown a picture of 46-year-old Antonio Lopez as someone who had been receiving help from the food bank during the past year.
Police say Lopez smashed a window of a secured office of St. Patrick's Church at 3716 Garden Ave. sometime between 7:30 p.m. July 13th and 8:20 a.m. on July 14, 2011.
Police Lopez made off with $130 in cash and a laptop computer.
Two weeks later, police say Lopez's fingerprints were also found at a Miami Beach business just blocks away from the church.
Lopez is also accused of stealing two laptops from Merchant One at 524 W. 41st Street. Police say surveillance video from the building's security system clearly identified him as the suspect.
On Monday, Lopez faced a bond court judge who ordered him held on $25,000 bond. He faces two burglary charges and one count of theft.
