MIA Welcomes Record-Breaking Number Of Passengers
MIAMI (CBS4) – A favorable first quarter for Miami International Airport sets-up the potential for another record-breaking year.
In 2010 MIA broke a record with an estimated 35.7 million passengers traveling in-and-out of the hub.
With first quarter number of passengers coming in at a 6.1% increase for 2011, it's possible that another record-breaker is underway. The airport has hosted over 9 million passengers for the first three months of the year. Through March, the number of international passengers jumped over 7% and domestic travelers increased about 4% over last year.
American Airlines contributed to the increase with their own record-breaking number of passengers on the weekend of March 12th and 13th , checking-in over 78,000 passengers total.
Despite a blaze at the airport's fuel farm on March 23rd that caused hundreds of canceled and delayed flights, the month of March still grew 5%.
