MIA Launches Virtual Passenger Assistant
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Travelers passing through Miami International Airport might feel like they've been transported to the future. Just like the holograms someone would see in sci-fi films like "Stars Wars" or "Total Recall", MIA has implemented futuristic holographic technology for a new digital passenger assistant.
"Leticia" is a new virtual assistant powered by high-definition projection imaging and surround sound.
The hologram speaks both English and Spanish, and, is available 24/7. Airport officials say Leticia is loaded with valuable information about the airport's 60 shops, restaurants and services.
MIA concessionaires partnered with Miami-Dade Aviation Department to bring in Leticia this month as part of a pilot program at two entrances to the South Terminal.
"We are proud to partner with our concessionaires to introduce a new, innovative way to engage with our customers and provide them with an enhanced travel experience," Miami-Dade Aviation Department Director Emilio Gonzalez said in a statement. "Our new virtual assistant is helping passengers make the most of their time at MIA in a fun, interactive and entertaining way. This is the first of many technology-driven services we will be launching at MIA before the winter travel season begins."
MIA is one of the latest airports to implement digital assistants, but Leticia is one of the first to target shopping and dining customers.
