Men Convicted In Mail Carrier Murder Sentenced
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Two men convicted in the death of South Florida postal carrier Bruce Parton were sentenced Friday.
Pikerson Mentor was sentenced to life in prison plus 42 years while his confessed accomplice, Saubnet Politesse, was sentenced to 21 years.
In September 2012, a federal jury found Mentor guilty of fatally shooting Parton as part of a plot to steal people's identities and file fraudulent income-tax refunds in their names.
The jury found that Mentor, 30, killed Parton, 60, of Pembroke Pines, for his master key so that he and a partner could access mailboxes, and the personal financial information inside the mail, belonging to residents of North Miami-Dade apartment complexes.
Mentor, who had just been released from prison, was assisted in the crime by Saubnet Politesse, 24, the getaway driver who pleaded guilty in August. He testified against Mentor at trial.
Parton, a 30 year veteran of the USPS, was just weeks away from retirement when he was shot and killed while on his daily mail route on December 6th, 2010. He was delivering the holiday mail at the Monte Carlo condominiums in the area of 486 NW 165th Street Road in Northwest Miami-Dade when he was killed. The gunman then stole his mail truck, drove a short distance, abandoned it and ran away.
Witness said they heard as many as five shots.
When both men were arrested, Police found Parton's mail key.
Both men have been in and out of the state prison system. Politasse has served time for burglary, grand theft, and fleeing police; Mentor has served time for robbery with a deadly weapon.
