Memorial To Be Held On Five Year Anniversary Of Haiti Earthquake

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – On January 12, 2010, 300,000 people lost their lives when a catastrophic earthquake hit the island of Haiti.
Out of the heartache and devastation came stories of survival and hope.
One such story comes from the parents of Britney Gengel, who turned their daughter's last wish into a wonderful reality.
The Be Like Brit Orphanage has been open for two years and currently is the home for 33 boys and 33 girls, commemorating the number of days Britney was missing in the rubble of the Hotel Montana in Haiti.
In Haiti doing humanitarian work, Britney perished just hours after sending her mother a text message saying that after graduation from college, she wanted to return to Haiti and build an orphanage.
Fast forward five years where Be Like Brit is a haven for children having turned "heartache into hope."
Britney's parents, Len and Cherylann Gengel, have returned from Haiti for a memorial service being held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Lynn University in Boca Raton.
The memorial will be for the four students and two professors who lost their lives during that devastating earthquake five years ago.
