MDPD: Home Invasion Robbery, 2 People Shot
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade Police are investigating a double shooting outside a Northwest Miami-Dade home.
It happened in the 4800 block of Northwest 29th Avenue around 1 p.m. Saturday.
Witnesses say the shooting was the result of an attempted robbery. Manuel Cruz said he was sitting in the front yard working on some lawn equipment. Two of his friends were sitting in front of the house when three men came into the yard. Cruz said one had a gun and approached one of his friends trying to get in the house, but that wasn't successful.
"It's locked, won't open," Cruz explained.
When they couldn't get in the door, Cruz said his friend, Carlos Galeas tried to grab the gun but was shot in the arm.
"I went on to try to take the gun away from him and that's when he shot me," explained Galeas in Spanish. After he was shot, he said his friend Jose broke a bottle over the gunman's head. That's when he said the gunman started "shooting crazily." He said Jose, was hit once in chest and once in the arm.
Galeas said his friend is stable at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Neighbors are concerned about the shooting. Walt Sims lives across the street. He said he came home shortly after the crime and doesn't know who would want to hurt his neighbors. "They don't really bother nobody," he said.
After the shooting, Galeas said the three men ran away. Galeas and Cruz said they don't know the would-be robbers and don't know why they might have been targeted. Galeas did say that he had just come home from a convenience store and wonders whether he might have been followed.
