MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police responded to a shooting in NW Miami-Dade Thursday night where a 13-year-old boy was injured.

The Miami-Dade Police Department's spokesperson said the drive-by shooting took place along N.W.81st Street near 12th Avenue.

According to police, the boy and a friend were walking home about 7:30 Thursday night when a car pulled up, someone fired a gun, and the boy's head was grazed by a bullet.

"A newer silver or gray in color Nissan Altima  rolled up beside them rolled down the window and fired several shots at the victim," explained Detective Robin Pinkard, with Miami-Dade Police.

"I heard 'pop, pop, pop' that was it," said Shawn Wayne, who lives in the neighborhood.

The 13 year old victim was taken to the hospital. His friend was not hurt.

As of Thursday night, police were looking for a newer model gray or silver Nissan Altima.

Officers at the scene said the boy is expected to be okay.  Investigators are looking for the car, the shooter, and the reason behind the shooting.

"Detectives are talking to witnesses to see if this was a targeted incident," said Pinkard.
