MARATHON (CBSMiami) – The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a Marathon man accused of grabbing and harassing a 12-year-old girl.
According to deputies, the 12-year-old girl and her mother were dining at the Sunset Grill at 9:30 p.m. on August 5th.
Authorities said the young girl got up from her table to go to the restroom and on the way she was grabbed by 38-year-old David Garcia, who wrapped his arms around her.
The girl reportedly broke free of Garcia's grasp. Sheriff's Office officials said when the girl exited the restroom, Garcia tried to grab her. He allegedly said something in Spanish she didn't understand.
According to the MCSO report, when she got back to the table with her mother, she told her mother what he did. Her mother reportedly asked her to once again walk by Garcia so she could witness what happened. The mother told authorities as she watched, her daughter walked by him again and he again tried to grab her.
Deputies said the mother confronted Garcia, and he walked out of the restaurant.
The manager working that night told the mother that Garcia was a former employee.
Video footage from the restaurant apparently captured all three confrontations between Garcia and the 12-year-old girl.
A warrant was obtained for the arrest of Garcia for stalking and battery.
If you have any information on his whereabouts, you are urged to contact the Sheriff's Office at (305) 289-2351 or Miami-Dade and Florida Keys Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-8477.
