Mayweather VS. Canelo Fight Means Big Bucks For Local Businesses
BRICKELL (CBSMiami) - A mega-fight brought in mega-money for South Florida businesses Saturday night.
Boxing fans packed local bars and restaurants to watch the showdown between Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
"Always a big night with a Mayweather fight," said fan Justin Tippes.
Brickell Irish Pub on South Miami Avenue was filled to capacity--with table reservations filling up a week in advance.
"We're standing room, we tried to get a table they told us if you didn't have your table reserved tough luck," said Tippes.
Many fans who didn't want to fork over the $74.50 to watch on Pay Per View at home spent the money out on food and drinks.
South Florida businesses, much like Mayweather and Canelo, are cashing in.
"We are talking about more than $30-grand for a night like this," said Aminuel Flores, manager of Brickell Irish Pub.
Some spots charged a cover fee, while others had an order minimum; $25 per person at the Irish Pub, $40 at La Mexicana Cantina and Grill.
