Masked Gunman Robs Hallandale Beach Big Lots
HALLANDALE BEACH (CBS4) - The search is on for a masked man who robbed a Big Lots store at gunpoint Saturday evening.
Nearly a dozen customers and employees were in the store, located in the 1700 block of E Hallandale Beach Boulevard, when an armed man wearing a black ski mask entered around 9:30 a.m.
Police were dispatched to the store after an employee tripped a silent alarm and a customer called 911, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald. Officers from Davie assisted Hallandale Beach police and a SWAT team from the Broward Sheriff's Office was called in after an employee was unaccounted for after several people walked out of the store.
Hallandale Beach police said the missing employee worked in the stock room and that was the last place witnesses saw the gunman running toward; they feared she may have been taken hostage.
When police searched the store, however, they found her and a customer hiding behind a cash register.
The gunman was gone along with an undisclosed amount of cash.
