Marlins Take Bite Out Of Tigers, 9-5
LAKELAND, Fla. (CBS4) - With a squad made up of mostly minor leaguers non-roster players, the Florida Marlins still managed to hammer the Detroit Tigers, 9-5.
Tigers starting pitcher Max Scherzer never made it past the third inning after giving up five runs and eight hits over 2 1/3 innings pitched.
Non-roster invitee Elih Villanueva pitched three shutout innings for the Marlins. Manger Edwin Rodriguez said he was impressed by center fielder Dewayne Wise, who went 1 for 2 with a walk in the game.
"I like Wise a lot," Rodriguez said. "He can hit when he gets his pitches and when he makes contact, it's going somewhere."
Highly touted prospect Matt Dominguez also homered for Florida in the victory.
