Marlins Start Spring Schedule With Victory
JUPITER, Fla. (CBSMiami) – Miami Marlins pitcher Josh Johnson making his first start since last May was a sight for sore eyes for Marlins fans Monday.
Johnson retired the first five batters he faced from the World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals in the Marlins first spring training game of the 2012 season.
But, Johnson couldn't finish out the second inning and was pulled after 40 pitches in the game.
The Marlins won the game 4-3, but the biggest story out of the game was the performance of Johnson's right shoulder.
While he didn't have his usual ability to finish off batters in the game, it was still a good start for Johnson who made only nine starts last season before shoulder inflammation ended his season.
The Marlins will split their squad up Tuesday and send one squad to the new Marlins Park in Miami to play the University of Miami. The other squad will play the Detroit Tigers in Jupiter, Florida.
Then on Wednesday, the split-squads will change locations and the team will play Florida International University and the New York Mets.
