Marlins' Stanton Back On Field After Getting Hit In Head
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Marlins management is breathing a sigh of relief Thursday as slugger Giancarlo Stanton is showing no problems 24 hours after being hit in the head by the Marlins' top pitching prospect.
The team said X-rays on Stanton were negative and showed no sign of a concussion. Stanton, who initially said he had some vision problems said his vision returned to normal a few hours after getting hit by the pitch.
Stanton gave the Marlins a scare Wednesday when a fastball off the hand of 20-year-old Jose Fernandez hit the slugger in the head, knocking his batting helmet off. Fernandez, rated one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball, said he felt bad about the beaning of Stanton.
The Marlins said Stanton expects to play in the team's first spring training game of 2013 this Saturday.
