Marlins Set For Exhibition Against UM
JUPITER (CBSMiami) – The calendar may only read February 26, 2014, but Wednesday afternoon the Miami Marlins will take the field for the first time this year in an exhibition game against the University of Miami Hurricanes.
The Marlins will throw out part of the expected starting lineup against the Canes in Jupiter Wednesday. The Marlins lineup against the Hurricanes will be:
- Donovan Solano – Second Base
- Christian Yelich – Left Field
- Marcell Ozuna – Center Field
- Garrett Jones – First Base
- Casey McGehee – Third Base
- Wigginton – Designated Hitter
- Brian Bogusevic – Right Field
- Ed Lucas – Shortstop
- Rob Brantly – Center
(Angel Sanchez – Pitcher)
Noticeably missing from the lineup is starting right fielder Giancarlo Stanton, catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, and infielders Adeiny Hechavarria and Rafael Furcal. In addition, if this was the regular season opener, pitcher Jose Fernandez would get the start as the team's number one pitcher.
According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald's Manny Navarro, Furcal is expected to be eased back into the starting lineup after missing last year following elbow surgery. He is not expected to play Friday, but will on Saturday.
Navarro also said that Henderson Alvarez will miss his first spring start due to an infection in his shin.
