Marlins Send Gaby Sanchez To AAA
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – With the acquisition of first baseman Carlos Lee from the Houston Astros, the Miami Marlins are now set at first base. But, it also squeezed out Gaby Sanchez.
The Marlins had banked on Sanchez to be the first baseman of the future since he opened the 2011 streak so well that he became an All-Star selection. But, after the All-Star break in 2011, Sanchez's numbers have been heading south.
Due to the poor hitting and overall play, and with Lee now the starter, the Marlins optioned Sanchez to AAA New Orleans Wednesday, according to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald.
Sanchez, 28, has been especially bad in 2012. He's hit well below the proverbial Mendoza line (.200) for most of the season. As of Wednesday, Sanchez was hitting .202, had an on-base-percentage of .250, and had a slugging percentage of .306.
