Marlins Season Of Futility Continues
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Marlins haven't been a threat to break many records this season, but the team shattered a team record for futility on Sunday.
With the 1-0, 13-inning loss to the Brewers, the Marlins have gone 37 innings without scoring a run.
Put another way, the last time the Marlins scored a run was in the third inning of a game on July 14, prior to the All-Star Break. The Fish were expected to be one of the worst teams in baseball this season and have lived up to that billing.
Lacking much major league talent, the roster and players have tried, but like Marlins teams in the past, the front office submarined the season to pad the profits of owner Jeffrey Loria.
The Marlins are averaging 3.19 runs per game, roughly a half-run worse than the next to worst team in the National League. The Marlins have 57 home runs as a team. For reference purposes, Chris Davis of the Baltimore Orioles has 37 home runs, by himself.
The Fish have a national league worst 289 RBI's. Overall, the team is hitting .230 on the season, along with a .289 on-base percentage, along with a NL-worst slugging percentage of .334.
The Marlins will try to break out of the scoreless slump starting Monday night in Denver against the Colorado Rockies.
